Seniors: Mathematics

Description
The Mathematics Department has a staff of eight full-time teachers with wide and varied experience of teaching in the U.K. and overseas. Mathematics is a required subject up to Year 11 and a very popular choice at 'A' Level. Over 40% of Sixth Form students are currently working towards Mathematics 'A' Levels.
The Department has enjoyed a very high level of success in examinations and some of our students have gone on to the most prestigious universities in the world. For example, in 2001 one of our students was awarded a major scholarship at Harvard.

Facilities
The Mathematics Department comprises seven dedicated classrooms and a departmental office on the second floor of the Senior School's new building. We also have access to well-equipped ICT rooms with computers for whole class instruction.

Courses
The programme of study for children in Years 7, 8 and 9 prepares them for the UK's Key Stage 3 National Curriculum Tests. In Years 7 and 8, learning is enhanced through techniques, such as those used in the CAME (Cognitive Acceleration through Mathematics Education) project. Pupils in Years 10 and 11 prepare for the Edexcel GCSE Examination. Edexcel GCE 'AS' and 'A' Level Mathematics are offered at the Sixth Form Level. We also offer special programmes of study for the many talented mathematicians in the School. These students sit the GCSE Examination at the end of Year 10, Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics at the end of Year 11 and may then opt to study both Mathematics and Further Mathematics at GCE 'A' Level.

Career Routes
A Mathematics qualification is a useful asset for a wide variety of fields of study at the tertiary level from Business Studies to Astro-Physics and for many University courses it is a requirement. The occupations that benefit from a thorough grounding in Mathematics are too numerous to list but encompass engineering, computer science, medicine, architecture and many more.
