Headteacher's Greeting
Hello everyone,

Welcome to St. Christopher's Junior School website. We want to be warm and welcoming and I sincerely hope that any contact you have with us will prove to be just that.

The Junior School is a thriving vibrant community in which we support and encourage any innovations we feel have the potential to enhance and improve your children's learning. You will notice from the school calendar that in addition to the many tried and tested successful events such as Year 3's day spent dipping into Ancient Egypt or Year 5's Tudor Feast day, there are also whole-school events such as National Costume Day. This day is designed to celebrate the international nature of our school and involves international snacks, music, dancing and the children coming to school in their national costumes.

 
Academically, we encourage a calm and purposeful atmosphere in all our classrooms. Learning should be enjoyable, enriching but also very focused so the most effective use is made of the time available. Our SATs results once again are high and well above U.K. national averages in all three subjects. We have as a staff been trying out and sharing our experiences of "accelerated learning techniques" which include fun lesson breaks involving brain gym. Go to the Accelerated Learning Classroom if you want to learn more about these and other accelerated learning strategies, or ask your children to teach you some brain gym!  We are also using newer assessment techniques (AfL - Assessment for Learning) which help to ensure our pupils are fully involved in assessing their own learning and that of their peers.  Research has shown that these techniques really do work, deepening the learning experience of children and helping to create life long learners.  A parental handbook will shortly be available to explain these initiatives more fully, so that parents can be involved too!  

We pride ourselves on continuously striving to improve (no matter how good we are we can always get better!) - having high expectations of ourselves, each other and the children we teach.
